A term used to describe fibres composed of synthetic linear macromolecules having in the chain recurring amide groups, at least 85% of which are attached to aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic groups.

Note: This limited definition was introduced by ISO in 1977 as a consequence of the creation of a separate class for aramid fibres.
