Manufacturers around the world often need assistance in identifying and developing overseas markets for their products. To help Indonesian manufacturers, the National Agency For Export Development (NAFED) was set up in 1971 as a special service agency of the Ministry of Trade, now the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Nafed’s Mission is :
- To formulate policy and establish guidelines for encouraging and supporting the expansion of non-oil and gas exports
- To provide information services and market co-ordination
- To implement and co-ordinate export promotion
- To expand the range of export products and markets.
Since 1971, Nafed s expert staff of over 300 have built up 30-years experience in assisting thousands of companies, large and small, to sell their products in markets around the world. Nafed provides a comprehensive range of services including market identification and research, advice on export procedures, regulations and financing, and invitations to take part in trade fairs and trade missions at home and abroad. To create a central pool of information Nafed has developed a computerized Trade Information Network, on line with several regional offices as well as with international data banks for assisting both buyers and sellers. The Agency maintains a database of thousands of Indonesian manufacturers classified by-products as well as another database of foreign buyers who may be of interest to Indonesian exporters. All Nafed s services are free of charge and, as a non-profit organization, NAFED acts as a facilitator linking buyers and sellers. The Agency places special emphasis on expanding the export of non-oil and gas commodities, for years once the mainstay of the economy. It is proactive in identifying manufacturers with suitable products for sale overseas as well as identifying new markets overseas. A substantial portion of Indonesia s export growth is a result of the activities of NAFED together with private companies in penetrating new and non-traditional markets.
